Muggings in Hone Park
While it is not known at this time if the West Canal shooting is an isolated incident, it bears a frightening resemblance to two hold-ups earlier this week on the other side of town. On Wednesday afternoon two men on bicycles put a gun to a German tourist’s head and took his gold chain on St. Mathew Street in the area formerly known as Hone Park. The next day, on Thursday afternoon a woman employed at the Municipal Airstrip was walking on St. John Street in the same area when she was similarly accosted, a gun put to her head and her purse taken. It is believed that both jackings were the work of the same pair who are described as being of medium height and dark complexion. The neighborhood, bounded by Princess Margaret Drive, the National Stadium and the sea is home to several embassies and is patrolled by private security companies. Police have yet to make any arrests.
