Sports camp held at Roger’s Stadium

While many people complain about the lack of activities for kids during the long summer vacation one man and several of his friends have done something about it. Curlin King, who has had summer camps in the past has rounded up about thirty children who were anxious for something to do and taken them out to Roger’s Stadium. News Five was on hand this morning.

The boys and girls who come from Belize City will take part in a number of sports that the organizers say will get them motivated to go back to school in September. Following registration, the enthusiastic group was taken out on the field for warm up.

“What we are trying to do as I said create this back to

school program. So therefore we are going to run the camp here from the second to the twenty seventh of August. And on the twenty-ninth we are going to be at the National Stadium from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. where we will be doing the total presentation of the program. And we also hope to give the kids exercise books, pens and pencils as gifts any school material that will help them go back to school.”

Although it was their first day, the youths who will be doing their basic training in track and field athletics, say they are happy to have something to do.

“I no have nothing to do home; bored, bored, bored.”

Q: “This is the first day of camp, have you been having a lot of fun so far?”

“Yes.”

Q: “What have you been doing?”

Participant #1

“I march up and down; I no know what you call it.”

Q: “How about you, have you been enjoying yourself so far?”

“Yes ma’am.”

Q: “Met any new friends?”

Participant #2

“Yes.”

Q: “Okay how about you, met any new friends?”

Participant #3

“Yes ma’am.”

Q: “Why did you decide to come to camp?”

Participant #3

“Because I wanted to have fun and meet friends.”

While the kids enjoy the outdoor activities, the business community is asked to assist by donating school supplies to the participants. King and the children can be located at the Roger’s Stadium from Mondays to Fridays.

In related news, the Orange Walk Sports Council is sponsoring five days of activities for 100 children. Besides offering sporting activities the organizers have invited guest speakers to offer lectures on crime, child and drug abuse prevention and other topics.
