Citizen turns over cocaine from wet drop

A wet drop worth over a half a million dollars was picked up this weekend, not by the intended drug traffickers, or an anti-drug patrol, but by a concerned citizen. On Sunday, August 1st, a civilian, who police declined to identify for his own safety, was near Caye Caulker when he found fifteen packets of cocaine floating in the sea. The drugs were turned into Belize City police who say each packet contains two kilos of cocaine for a total of 30 kilos. With the street value of each kilo being in the neighborhood of 20,000 dollars, the drugs recovered are worth about 600,000 dollars. Police suspect that the packets were dropped from a plane and whoever was supposed to pick them up was scared off. They have no leads in the case. The drugs are now in the care of the Exhibit Room Keeper at the Queen Street Station.
