Lions discuss plans for 2000
On Sunday the Belize Club of the International Association of Lions will meet in its first cabinet meeting to discuss its plans for the year 2000. Governor of District 59, which incorporates all of Belize, Leo Cuellar, says he hopes to work with other volunteer organizations to improve the lives of Belizeans.

“We are saying that we would be happy to know that we have more hands to serve in Lionism. So we are bringing in all organizations that basically have the same ideals, the same aims, the same dreams and we are bringing them in to work along with us. One of the main things I am aiming for this year in the spirit of partnership, is to get involved with diabetes that’s rampant in the whole world.
There is joy in doing things for other people. We are also aiming to have more clubs. We feel for example, Belize City, we only have one club. But I feel that by the end of the year, we should get at least one more club and so will all our other clubs.”
The Belize Lions Club has a membership of 200 people. Cuellar says the club will have at least one major fundraising project this year and encourages all Belizeans to get involved with volunteerism.
