B.T.L. enlarges presence in Belmopan
Last October when Hurricane Mitch forced the migration to Belmopan, B.T.L. decided that it might make sense to relocate some of their operations there permanently. This week, the company inaugurated a beefed up Belmopan branch which will now not only provide customer service but house the international operators. The new Global Telephone Operators Position System or GTOPS is an upgraded system that B.T.L. says will allow for continuous service during disasters and is Y2K ready. The operators will begin manning their Belmopan stations August 1st while the Belmopan branch office opens its doors to customers August 16th. In related news, B.T.L. is holding its Annual General Meeting tonight at the Biltmore Plaza beginning at 7 p.m. In this record year for profits, shareholders are expected to receive dividends of 59 cents per share.
