Fourth Community Hub Launched in Belize City
The U.S. Embassy is continuing its “Empowering Communities to Empower Themselves” initiative with the opening of a new resource hub in the Jump Street and Rocky Road areas of Belize City. The program provides entrepreneurial training and business opportunities to former gang members on the Southside, while aiming to create safer neighborhoods and stimulate economic growth in underserved communities. It is funded by the U.S. Embassy’s Office of Public Affairs and implemented through the Love and Kolbe Foundations. Former gang members attended a three-day mediation retreat with the Kolbe Foundation and registered a new business in downtown Belize City. Called “Prolific Minds and Hearts,” it provides car detailing services and sells purified water. Since the ECTET program was initiated in October 2020, the U.S. Embassy has funded four community resource hubs in four high-crime neighborhoods in Belize City.
