BTL Working Along with BEL on Rural Projects
Access to electricity paves the way for access to devices like cell phones and radios, critical items in times of emergency as well as information sharing. DIGI representatives are touring these rural communities alongside the Ministry to identify solutions for greater access to communication.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Public Utilities, Energy and Logistics
“It will become more easier access with the advent of electricity. So, while we were traveling around the country, we make sure we took BTL along with us.”
Ryan Cobb, Energy Director, Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, and Logistics
“It is primarily BTL and BEL that has been traveling with us. So one of the things that we have done, because micro grids has to be sized for the community, apart from the size of the community we also put in an additional amount for utilities such as DIGI. They can come in, put in a tower or repeater. So, then, that community can now have access to cellular service. But, not only that, they will also have access to things such as signal boosters and radios. They will now have access to radios. And, it is not only just for entertainment purposes. It is actually an emergency response so people know if anything, natural disaster, flooding, hurricanes, things t that effect.”
