Three dead in highway crash
A bus accident on Friday in Corozal has claimed the lives of three men. Around 6:30 a.m. cane farmer Samuel Sanker was driving a white Ford truck and carrying four passengers when he collided with a Venus Bus at the junction of the Old Northern Highway. The truck overturned. Samuel Sanker and two of his passengers sustained cut wounds but the other two men, his sixty year old stepfather Everisto Sanker and his thirty-seven year old stepbrother Gregorio Sanker Loggan died from their injuries. The bus driver Rafael Ruiz, died at the Corozal Hospital around eight that morning. Police investigations have determined that Samuel Sanker was at fault and he has been charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, negligent harm, failure to give way to a motor vehicle on a major road and driving without due care and attention.
Police are still looking for the driver involved in a fatal hit and run Sunday morning on the Old Northern Highway. The body of 37 year old Heston Thompson was found between miles 34 and 35 and taken to the K.H.M.H. Police are asking the public’s assistance in this case.
