Garifuna Council signs protection agreement with Government
Characterizing it as an historic event the Prime Minister signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Garifuna Council on Saturday. The major points include protecting the land and sea areas inhabited and used by the Garinagu, the prevention of discrimination against Garifuna workers, and the development of social projects and programs particularly in the south. The government also agreed to enter into good faith negotiations with the Council regarding their communal rights to certain areas of land. The Memorandum was signed in Seine Bight Village during a NGC Youth Connection conference. Roy Cayetano signed for the council.
