Remains of latest child murder in poor condition
The mystery surrounding the death of nine year old Erica Wills continues to deepen. The child’s remains were found on Saturday, exactly three weeks after she disappeared near her home on Cemetary Road in Belize City. Who she went with and why, is still unknown, and now the medical examiner says it may be impossible to ever determine the cause of death. The body had been wedged between some rocks off a feeder road close to the quarry near Gracie Rock village. Animals and birds got to it before the police did, however. The absence of flesh and the loss of most of the bones are presenting a monumental problem to Dr. Mario Estradabran. The Police Pathologist tells News Five the bones show no signs of violence and the only marking on one of the long bones is characteristic of an animal bite. Dr. Estradabran says although it is clear that foul play was involved because of the way the body was hidden, the state of the remains may prevent us from ever knowing exactly how she was killed. There are no suspects in the case so far. Erica Wills was the fourth child to be murdered in the Belize district in the last ten months. Two of the victims were found off the Western Highway just a day or two after their deaths. The medical examiner was able to determine that they had been raped and cut numerous times with a knife or scalpel. A mechanic, Mike Williams, has been charged with the murder of one of the children, Jackie Fern Malic. The last set of remains, has yet to be positively identified.
