Guns recovered and suspects detained in CIB theft
One week after the police reported the theft of seven guns and ammunition from the National Exhibit Room on Queen Street, CIB has detained five men. Although the police would not comment on the identities of those being held, News Five understands they were among the crew doing construction work on the Eastern Division police compound. They were taken into custody after police searched one of their homes and reportedly found three of the stolen weapons. News Five also understands that the crime may not have occurred between June thirtieth and July ninth, as the police press release indicated, but that the break-in actually took place in April. The case resulted in the head of the CIB at Eastern, Simeon Alvarez being reassigned to the Raccoon Street station.
