Operations Commander Grinage on Police Involvement in Narco 11

Alford Grinage

ACP Alford Grinage took over as Commander of National Operations after Assistant Commissioner Vidal was transferred from that post. This is because several members of his team were implicated during the drug plane landing. Eleven persons in total have been charged since then, including four police officers: Sergeant George Ferguson, Corporal Elmer Nah, and police constables Delwin Casimiro and Nelson Middleton. Today, News Five confirmed that additional charges will be levelled against the accused men, but in that process, we also got a reaction from ACP Grinage about his colleagues finding themselves on the other side of the law.

“This is not the first and I am sure this will not be the last. We will try our best to ensure that we maintain integrity within the police department. But at the same time, dealing with it, me personally being involved in the investigation, it’s heartbreaking to know that persons that you trusts, especially the ones that are named at this point in time in connection with the last landing. It was persons that were very close to the operations office, which I now hold, so it is something that I will be looking at to ensure that reoccurrence does not occur.”

“Well the next step, as you’ve heard the commissioner mention on numerous television stations, the investigation continues. The matter is before the court already. I know that bail applications have been launched already and we expect that additional charges will be brought forward to the guys that were detained.”

Others charged in the case include Mennonites Heinrich Redecop and Johan Wall, and several others.
