Facebook and District Branches Will Help You Celebrate From Home
The entire day will be punctuated with displays of Garifuna pride and culture and in case you wanted to still be a part of the celebration from where you are, it will be streamed live on the National Garifuna Council’s Facebook page.
Melissa Zuniga, Project Coordinator, National Garifuna Council
“From the Yurumein, we are spiritual people, and a lot of us are Christians, so we give thanks to the Almighty and so we have a Mass and the songs, the readings are all in Garifuna. From there we move on to the official ceremonies where we will have the different dignitaries, the National Executive, and so they will just share their thoughts on our theme, and this year’s theme is: (talking in Garifuna) “I for you, you for me is the Garifuna way, let us move forward. The National Garifuna Council has twelve branches throughout Belize and most, if not all, of the branches will probably have – maybe there will be food – you can get your Hudut; they will be doing some small activity in that regard, where you will be able to still enjoy the Garifuna food and if you tune in to Facebook you will be able to experience the drums, everything that we have to share with you.”
