Art classes at House of Culture
For the past two weeks the old floor boards at the Belize Government house have felt young bones walk across it. In a workshop sponsored by the House of Culture, thirty-two children, ages eight to fifteen, have been refining their artistic skills under the direction of Pamela Bruan.
Aimee Flores, Art Student
“I needed something during the summer besides just stay home and do anything and my mommy really wanted me to learn how to draw much better.”
Pamela Bruan, Art Teacher
“To develop the imagination you would think well everybody has one and you know its real easy but its something that needs to be nurtured, the imagination must be nurtured so that’s what we are doing now, nurturing the imagination with the materials that allow them to explore a little bit.”
John Downs, Art Student
“You could broke a spoon and then you take the handle and then you could draw with that.”
Eleven of the children’s creations have been entered in a competition sponsored by the Mexican Embassy with the theme “The Environment.” The workshop ends on July 29th and a second session begins in August. If you are interested in signing your child up, please contact the House of Culture. The workshop is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and registration is five dollars. The artwork is on display at the House of Culture during normal business hours.
