PBL Donates to Christmas Tablet and Toy Drive

This afternoon, the Port of Belize Limited gave a significant contribution towards the Aspire for Greatness Christmas Tablet and Toy Drive by handing over a check for four thousand dollars. The financial assistance will go a long way towards purchasing the tablets at a lower cost in the United States.

Hertha Gentle, Human Resources Officer, PBL

“We have supported Mr. Picart’s organization before, when he was doing his schoolbag drive, and when we saw that he was doing something that again was targeting students on the south side of Belize City, the Port of Belize felt that it is something that we should jump on and participate in.  After all, we are located on the south side of Belize City in Port Loyola area and we thought it was only right to just come out and give the support.”

“Now I know the amount is going to be very helpful for the foundation.  What do you hope that amount could get done?”

“Well, we know it’s just a small drop in the bucket because the foundation, we believe, they have really set an ambitious goal for themselves.  But we do see that it is going to be able to give some children the opportunity to do their online classes because from what we know of the initiative, it’s targeting getting tablets for primary school students and high school students so we do believe it is going to give an assistance, as small as it may be, but assistance nonetheless.”

“This is a substantial contribution from the Port of Belize Limited and from their staff and it will put us a very long way because what we are going to be doing with this financial donation which is about four thousand dollars, is that we’re going to be sending this money to our other colleague from True Belizean non-profit in Los Angeles, Mr. Faron Smith Jr., so that he could use that two thousand U.S. to purchase tablets online.  And so, if you put a tablet at a hundred and sixty dollars Belize, we are looking at anywhere between twenty-five to thirty-five tablets.  So we here in Belize for Aspire for Greatness are responsible for one hundred tablets, Mr. Smith and his organization are responsible for another hundred tablets.  So the initiative is trying to get two hundred tablets to gift high schoolers, particularly on the south side of Belize City in the week of December twentieth so that they can use these devices for school.”
