Minister of State Says International Interest Considerable at Summit

Chris Coye

The recent Investment Summit was a success, at least from the level of interest that it drew from the more than two hundred participants. Minister of State in Finance, Chris Coye, shared with News Five today that there has been continuous exchange and interest shown, but that in due course, tangible arrangements should follow.

“From the attendance both virtually and in person, there clearly was a lot of interest in Belize and that interest continues subsequent to the Summit. What came out of it for me was it became quite an Information Summit on the Government’s approach to investment – its pro-investment policy and I think it was quite useful for potential investors to see a bit of what the future would look like with this Government and its willingness to foster investment to promote economic activity in the country. What it has done is not only generate interest but I think it has helped in building investor confidence, especially with the domestic businesses. I know that in terms of international, in terms of building interest, just yesterday there was interest from a Trinidadian entity in terms of some of our agricultural products. Those things take time. It can’t happen overnight, but yes, a build-up of interest for investment in Belize, both domestically and internationally.”
