Belize’s Very Own Black Friday Sales
Belize City was buzzing with traffic as another U.S. tradition has been adopted into the Belizean culture. “Black Friday” sales were happening across the municipality and people were making sure they took advantage of the great promotions and deals and stocked up for the Christmas holidays which is a month away.

It felt like the traditional November nineteenth sale, but it wasn’t. The rush in downtown Belize City today was residents making an attempt to stretch dehn dalla with Black Friday Deals for which almost all businesses were doing some form of promotion.

“We have deals on everything. We have device promotions, we have mobile promotions, we have DigiNet promotions. For device promotions, we are giving free bonus credit with the purchase of a device. We have devices as low as ninety-nine dollars and you get fifty dollars free bonus credit.”

“Today in our stores and countrywide, we have a double day so customers can enjoy double the credit. And of course, if it is that it’s closing hours at the stores or agents, then customers can also do a double up at home online. We are also excited about our Black Friday plan which is exclusive and only available today for purchasing. What customers have to do is dial *700# and find the plan and purchase it or text the key word BFP to 700 and they would enjoy data, they would enjoy talk and text to digi and the other guys and they would enjoy talk and text to U.S.A., Mexico and Canada.”

“For our device promotion it is only for today countrywide, but tomorrow in our Belize City stores, we will be open on Regent Street at our flagship store from eight until twelve and at our signature store from nine until one. So you can still come in and get these deals for the DigiNet, free installation, which is from today to Tuesday, November thirtieth, so you have some time to come in and sign up.”
We found that a lot of people were purchasing gadgets as Christmas gifts for the entire family or even that special someone. From tablets, to Samsung devices, play stations and televisions – everything was at the Cellular World branches countrywide. We stopped in at one of the Belize City branches and spoke to Software Technician Justin Ysaguirre.

“Usually we have a November nineteenth one day sale. We did not have that this year and we announced the one week of the Black Friday sales and it has been great so far. People have been coming out, stopping by to see what we have on sale and also getting stuff before the Christmas season. Not surprisingly, the Samsung A-series devices – those are, as usual, very hot items and those have been flying off. We are trying to keep up with everybody’s demands and being the authorised Samsung distributor for Belize has made our job much easier in terms of getting these devices to our customers.”
Inside Mikado Store in downtown Albert Street, residents were out taking advantage of the lowest prices in materials. While they are not doing a Black Friday sale per se, manager Neena Mahitani says that there are promotions on basically everything in the store to make sure that all resident can purchase items to celebrate Christmas.

“We have a lot of promotions going on right now in the store. We also have a live sale that we are running in the night. Tonight actually is our last night. So if you log on to our page between six and six-forty-five, you can take advantage of the sale that we are running which is you get a ten percent on the items that are being featured during the live. We have a promotion of yo buy two and yo get one free – you can get it in either king, queen, full or twin. Rugs have the lowest prices and we have them in all the sizes, matching designs if you want to combine a big one and a small one, we have them all. It’s a constant traffic. I can’t say it has been like crazy, crazy, but the traffic has been constant. People come in, they shop they leave and then the other crowd comes in. So it’s like dehn ina sync.”
