Story Picture
“Good evening, I’m James Adderley and we’re about to lay Sports Monday on you. The softball community tried to help two of its very own who were victims of the Victoria Street fire with a triple-header of primetime activities at Rogers Stadium on Saturday. It featured the best from the west against the big guns of the city and we caught up with the opening act as JL’s goes up against Esperanza’s Running W.

We pick up the action in the top of the 1st. Anna Ku is at the plate facing pitcher Delvorine Mena – Ku takes the strike as the runner from 1st attempts to steal 2nd’ catcher Cattouse makes a good throw, but the ball is babbled at 2nd which allows shortstop Lisa Scott to score fromthird.

This replay in the bottom of the half was awesome people. Dorla Cattouse smashes Karen Thompson for double and Erlene Belisle scores all the way to 2nd.

Joyce Galvez then smashes this single which brings home Cattouse, but tries to steal 2nd – Belisle the runner at 3rd gets cut down at home plate, but Galvez nevertheless reaches 2nd.

Desiree Flowers then hits to 3rd base, Idolene Crawford fields and throw, Anna Ku cannot come up with it, one more run scores and Flowers is safe.

This single from the bat of Sonia Augustus brings in another run. And then this ball should have been fielded, but gets away to put Hortense Bevans on 2nd and cap a 7 run 1st inning explosion.

It was all Mena would need as she pitches JL’s to a 12-6 big W over the Running Rebels.

Game two of the triple-header brings a showdown between team CTC of Belize City and Grace Kennedy of Roaring Creek, and we join the bottom of the 3rd. Its Pineda at the plate hitting Josephine Meighan and she gets the 1st run of the ballgame although, she was put out on the play attempting to steal 2nd.

Pineda comes up in the 4th against Meighan who comes up with a strike, but the attempt to cut down the base stealer and 2nd allows the 2nd run of the ballgame to score.

In the 6th Grace Kennedy scores its only run of the ballgame when Hortense Thurton plays this come backer with bases loaded, the throw from the catcher hits the base runner, which allows the runner at 3rd to score.

JL’s pick up a crucial run in the bottom of the 6th when Davis somehow out runs this throw from the 2nd baseman to take a 2-1 lead.

Hortense Thurton takes the 3-1 big W when she gets this batter to hit to 2nd baseman who finds Sharrel Jones as Team CTC pulls off the bit W.

In the third game schedule Camalote’s Durly Crystal beat Belize City’s Acros.

Turning to basketball, viewers, the BNBA presents the first ever Inter-District Basketball Competition this Friday. The teams involved are Orange Walk Music Center, Christian Ambassadors of Belize City, Cayo’s Running Rebels, Dangriga’s Southern Bombers, Punta Gorda and Belmopan’s Ministry of Works. This tournament kicks off Friday.

Meanwhile, National U-17 Basketball team heads to Georgetown, Guyana for the Junior CARICOM Basketball Championships. Good luck guys.

That’s it for sports, Jah over all. I’m James Adderley.”
