One Detained, Another Sought in Murder of Anil Ansaney
On Thursday night fifty year-old businessman, Anil Asnaney, was shot and killed at close range as he and his wife, Manisha, were about to get into their vehicle on Baymen Avenue. The couple had just gone to pick up food from Sumathi’s Indian Restaurant when they came under fire. Two youths on bikes reportedly opened fire on the couple and rode off towards Kelly Street. Today Commissioner Williams said the Police Department is trying to establish a motive for the attack.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“They were approached by two gunmen on bicycles. One of the gunmen took out a firearm and fired several shots at him, fatally injuring him. His wife was grazed I think in the chest area. So far, we have detained one person and we’re looking for another. The police have been busy trying to ascertain a motive, but from what we’re seeing, he was targeted. So there’s no doubt that he was the intended target. The question is what is the reason behind him being targeted. So we’re still trying to ascertain that. There are several pieces of evidence that we’re getting we believe can assist us, but I’m not going to go into too much details because I don’t want to alert those that we’re looking for. That is where we are at this time.”
