Story Picture
To better serve their tourist and business travelers, Tropic Air has innagurated a new office at the Punta Gorda airstrip. The facility was built in Spanish Lookout and transported by road to Punta Gorda to replace the former building, which needed extensive repairs. President of Tropic, John Grief told news five the company believes there will be increased tourism and business in the area with the completion of the Southern Highway and Tropic intends to tap into that market.

John Grief, President Tropic Air

“The interest is because we feel that tourism and business in general is growing done south and we particularly feel a tourism led economy, much like San Pedro, Caye Caulker, Placencia is happening in P.G. and we just want to be we’re a part of it. And be sure our customers have a new, clean, safe terminal building.”

Talk about your service to P.G. at this point and what your plans are.

“We have four flights every day operating into there now, with aircraft such as this, the caravan, and basically sometimes our flights fill up and instead of letting the people down, we’ll put on another sector as we call it. We just intend to grow with the community, with the region we service, we intend to sense it and to react to it.”

Currently only about 20 percent of Tropic’s P.G. customers are tourists, but they expect this to increase.
