Human Rights Minister Concerned about Deaths of Minors
While with Minister Balderamos-Garcia, she also expressed the concerns of her ministry with the number of minors that have been killed. As she sympathized with the families that have lost young people to gun and other forms of violence this year, she says that during the sixteen days of activism, there is a focus on the violence against children.
Dolores Balderamos-Garcia, Minister for Human Development
“Our National Commission for Families and Children is extremely concerned. Miss Margaret Nicholas who has been in this fight for many years will be retiring at the end of the year, but I can tell you that the persons that we have on board now at the commission are just as committed and we will ask Miss Margaret to continue to guide us. Now I do want to say that because we are in the Sixteen Days of Activism, it is so important to focus on the violence against children, especially the little twelve-year-old girl who lost her life along with the mother to an extreme form of intimate partner violence. Not only are we focusing on it, but we are trying to make every intervention that we can. Like I said last week, if we can save one life through the intervention and awareness that is something that we will be doing.”
