Ek’Balam Dominates Once More in World Cup Competition

Belize’s National Pok-ta-Pok team, Ek’Balam is the 2021 Pok ta Pok World Cup Champions. Also known as the “Mayan ball game,” the world cup competition was held in Merida, Mexico.  Participating in the tournament are international teams including a delegation from Belize, Guatemala and Panama. Belize was off to a strong start in the two day tournament that kicked off on Thursday, wining four matches consecutively against two Guatemalan teams, as well as Panama and Mexico. News from out of Merida this evening is that Belize’s delegation defeated Guatemala today qualifying for the finals. In the final match this evening Belize defeated Mexico and took first place.
