Caye Caulker Councillor Arraigned for Wounding
Councillor George Del Cid of the Caye Caulker Village Council got in trouble with the law after he reportedly hit a man on the face the week. He was arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate Court Tuesday, November thirtieth for Wounding. He was a two-thousand-dollar bail, which he met and was ordered to return to court on February seventeenth, 2022. A video surveillance footage shows a person who appears to be Councillor del Cid driving a golf cart next to a shirtless man identified as Oscar Montoya, and punching him with his left fist. Montoya is observed in the video holding his face and walking away. A photograph of Montoya shared with news five shows he was injured above his right eye and required stitches. Montoya said that he was just standing on the street side and did not do anything to offend del Cid. He claims that del Cid would call him names, saying he was lazy and should find a job. Montoya said he asked him for a job, but never insulted him or gave the councillor any reason for attacking him. We attempted to get a comment from the Village Councillor about the incident and the charges, but he has not responded so far.
