Dance Company holds summer camp

If you love to dance, now’s your chance. The Belize Arts Council and the National Dance Company are inviting you to attend their traveling summer dance camp. The first stop this week is the Toledo District where Belizean and Cuban instructors are giving classes in Latin Folk, Black Folk, Modern and Dance Hall as well as choreography. The camp, which will last for three days in each district then moves on to Dangriga on the 8th, followed by Cayo, Corozal, Orange Walk and the Belize District. The month long dance marathon culminates in a national competition on July 30th and 31st. Local Town Boards and Education Offices are lending their support to the projects and funding is being provided by the Government of Belize and HIVOS, a Dutch humanitarian agency. The summer dance camp is open to anyone over the age of seven and all you have to do is show up in comfortable clothing and be ready to dance.

In related news, a series of consultations on the establishment of district houses of culture and schools for the arts are also underway. The first consultation was in Toledo last week and the next will be held in the Cayo District on the 12th. These will be followed by consultations in Corozal on July 19 and Orange Walk on the 20th. Artists and interested members of the public are invited to come share their ideas.
