Yolanda Crombie new Rotary President
When she joined the Belize Rotary Club in 1992, she was one of three women members. Yesterday, Yolanda Crombie became the first female president in the club’s forty-three year history. As the General Manager of Atlantic Insurance and the President of the Belize Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary presidency will certainly add to her already heavy schedule, but Crombie is ready for the challenge.
Yolanda Crombie, President, Rotary Club
“The first woman as Rotary President for the Rotary Club of Belize is a tremendous achievement. The Rotary Club of Belize has been established for the last 43 years and perhaps it’s something which time has come and I say kudos to the members of the club to have acknowledged that and to have lent full support to have women leadership into the new millenium for Rotary.
We have certain activities that are ongoing, handed down from one president to the other. For example, we have a heart fund that sends children with congenital heart diseases to the States for open heart surgery.”
Other projects range from simple paint jobs to computer programs for the elderly. She says the members’ support has been overwhelming for all Rotary projects. This year’s theme is “Poverty Alleviation through Education”. Crombie says that the public can expect many youth and education orientated projects in the coming months.
