Doctor Killed in Accident in OW District
A doctor was killed in a collision in the Orange Walk District on Thursday night. Police say they responded to the scene at mile 20 on the Blue Creek Road and found a Toyota Hilux pickup on its side and a Ford Escort , both extensively damaged. Dr. Victor Can is reported to have been driving the Escort when he lost control of the vehicle and collided into the Hilux, driven by Brendon Lopez, a customs officer of San Ignacio. Also inside the vehicle at the time were three police officers and one BDF soldier, who all sustained minor injuries. Dr. Can was transported to the Orange Walk Hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival. Today the Ministry of Health and Wellness, expressed it condolences on behalf of the staff of the Northern Regional Hospital, the wider medical community, and all healthcare to the family of Dr. Can. The ministry says he worked tirelessly at the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk Town as a medical doctor assigned to the COVID-19 vaccination team since March 2021. He will be greatly missed by the members of the vaccination team, extended staff at hospital, and the patients with whom he interacted.
