Declaration signed at Rio summit
All forty-eight leaders of countries in Latin America and the Caribbean attending the first joint summit with the European Union in Brazil, have adopted the Declaration of Rio de Janeiro. The declaration covers several points including culture, sustainable development, trade, law, human rights, education, research and science. It was also agreed that next year’s summit should be held in Spain. Representing Belize at the two-day summit were Prime Minister Said Musa, Minister of Economic Development Ralph Fonseca, Commissioner to the European Union Assad Shoman and Ambassador to Mexico Salvador Figueroa.
