Musician raises funds for study
It will be a benefit concert with more than a cause; it will display the talent of young Belizeans. This Thursday’s benefit recital, which will be held at the Bliss Institute, features the talent of young Belizean musician Daniela Gongora accompanied by Julietta Burrowes on piano. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to Gongora, who has been given a grant to attend the University of Rhode Island. News Five’s Arreini Palacio caught up with her at rehearsals.
Daniela Gongora, Musician
“There is a passion in the music that just really turns you up inside, you know.
I attended the World Scholar Athlete Games. That is where I got the opportunity to apply for a grant to attend the University of Rhode Island; that is where they had it. So I am doing this recital to help me to cover some minor expenses and also to show the public of my abilities and give to the Belizean audience classical music mainly classical and some modern composers. It is going to be a lecture recital so I will be saying a little bit about each piece before I play it. I think it should cater to anyone who wants to know about classical music.”
Gongora leaves for her two-year course in August. She plays the violin, cello, recorder, piano and steel pan. Those interested in getting tickets for the benefit concert can purchase them at either Pallotti High School or C.Y.’s Music Store on Hyde’s Lane.
