B.S.I. Says It Hopes B.S.C.F.A. Will Join the Opening of Crop Season

William Neal

Neal says A.S.R./B.S.I.’s wants to make sure that the government is acting in sync with what its representatives are saying.  So come Monday, the hope is that the B.S.C.F.A. will partake in the crop season along with the rest of the cane farmers associations. But, as Neal indicated, that is left to be seen.

William Neal, Communication Director, A.S.R./B.S.I.

“We have written to the S.I.C.B. chairman and asking for a definitive response by tomorrow so that we can proceed to make the mill ready for start on Monday. We’re hoping that we will receive a definitive answer from him by tomorrow, and we’ll be able to proceed. As you know, we’re seeing some rains, but with the climate change considerations, this was a well thought out decision to proceed at this point that we need to get underway as quickly as possible to make sure that no standing cane is left at the end of the crop itself.”

Marion Ali

“And if that does not paddle through come Monday, and this problem spills into next week, how do you see this affecting the industry?”

William Neal

“Well, you do have three association that are ready to proceed, and we’re hoping it don’t come to that—that we’ll go ahead and that we get the clarity that we need tomorrow. That is our fervent hope.”
