Former U.D.P. Rep Wins Defamation Suit
In political news, the Guardian newspaper reported today that former United Democratic Party Area Representative Frank “Papa” Mena has won a libel suit. In total, he was awarded eighty thousand dollars in damages for comments Indira Mejia made in April, for which she could not provide evidence in court. In addition to the damages, Mejia was prohibited from publishing any further defamatory remarks. The suit alleged that during a press conference in May, Mejia claimed Mena had had conned two individuals and used his office to acquire land. Frank Mena was represented in court by Dean Barrow.
