Osorio Says There Was No Political Interference; Sugar Board Functioning Well
We also sought to find out from Osorio if any of the politicians in the north had any influence on S.I.C.B.’s letter to A.S.R./B.S.I. last Friday. Here is how he responded.
Marcos Osorio, Chairman, S.I.C.B.
“I would say no influence. Actually, I made the proper consultations before drafting the press release, guided by the legislation. That is the reason the legislation exists. I will also say, when we listen to the mill, they were for twelve, thirteen years making all the decisions at the board level. And now it is the board, in a unanimous way, and this time the chairman, who is really fulfilling his responsibilities as Chairman of the Board that we now have a board that is proactive, and where the mill is not making one handed decisions. That to me is the simple reason why the mill is behaving the way they are behaving, they do not have the full control and make and guide the decision which have always been at their best interest.”
