Looking Back: “Ole Time Christmas”
These days Belizeans start their Christmas preparations weeks in advance. But “back in the day”, less time was spent on getting ready, and more on the celebrating. To find out more about the Ole Time Christmas in Belize, News Five is pulling up a story from our archives, from December 1999 to be exact. In this story, a young Janelle Chanona jogged the memories of some gracious ladies who invited News Five into their homes. Not just in the city, but “up country” in Burrell Boom and Crooked Tree. In other words, she went to the heart of Creole culture to find the Spirit of Christmas past.
