Christmas Cheer in PG
Former Punta Gorda Mayor, Ashton Mckenzie, is spreading the Christmas cheer to the less fortunate. Today, Mckenzie began his mission to deliver one hundred food packages to families across the town. Mckenzie says the packages contain most of the necessary items needed to prepare a full Christmas meal. He told us via zoom that the community, including local businesses, came together to make the gift packages a reality.
Asthon Mckenzie, Former PG Mayor
“Approximately one month ago, I made it public my desire to do something special to the less fortunate in my community for the Christmas. That was later met with very good energy. It was well received by family, friends, local businesses and of course, residents of Punta Gorda. They basically reach out to assist with the key resources necessary to support this initiative. As you are well aware, COVID-19 has displaced many folks of their jobs, of their homes, and of their lives as well. So, it has been very difficult. Many find themselves to be on the edge and in a very precarious situation. For those who know me, they will tell you that I am a very family oriented community spirited individual. Christmas is certainly a time in which we reflect on the importance of the institution of the family and the sacredness of it. And, as we call to mind the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, no doubt we think about sharing the joy of the season and of course helping those who are in need.”
