Drink Responsibly and Avoid Domestic Violence
The police department is also advising against domestic violence this holiday weekend. With alcohol being consumed during this festive period, the likelihood of domestic violence is a real concern.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, Belize Police Department
“When it comes to domestic incidents, because whenever people consume alcohol it seems like, I don’t know what they put in their alcohol in Belize but tempers flare and a lot of people reach their climax and cannot be stopped when they get into that rage. So we are trying to encourage people that if you are drinking alcohol, try to use the alcohol for what it’s for, a good feeling, be loving and not violent. While I don’t encourage anyone to drink, let’s try to minimize the amount of friction, especially within your household. We know that the curfew hours will not change for the weekend, it remains as midnight for Friday and Saturday and we go back to eleven on Sunday and Monday. So while the police department, I want to change a little from the safety tip, we cannot have banquets and luncheons like other agencies or government departments but the Commissioner of Police has secured and given the instruction that each police officer engaged in active duty on Christmas Day and on New Year’s Day, they will be fed with a proper meal for lunch.”
