Police Say “Beef” Was the Motive of Monday Evening Murder

Derron Hernandez

The long Christmas weekend did not go without bloodshed. In Belize City, a young man’s life was cut down on Monday evening while he was at home. New Five’s Marion Ali has the story in the following report.

Police believe that a bitter dispute between two men on Boxing Day may have led to a deadly attack on one of them at his home – here on Raccoon Street Extension. Derron Hernandez was inside the house when someone with evil intentions went calling for him.

“A lone gunman had the audacity to enter his yard, shout for him, and fired a single shot, causing his fatal injury.”

The Police Department’s Director of Communications, Assistant Superintendent of Police Fitzroy Yearwood, shared what police had gathered today.

“We have received viable information that we believe could help us in this investigation. We have detained persons and we believe that these people, if they shed some information, that it could help us in making an arrest.”

Today, investigators returned to the scene and canvassed the neighbourhood in an attempt to gather more information about the incident. While Hernandez’s next door neighbours only knew of his murder when they saw the police show up that night and removed his body, another neighbour said that had he arrived home a few minutes earlier, he would have probably seen Hernandez’s attacker.
