Property Taxes and Trade License Fees are Due
It’s that time of the year where revenue collection is a paramount concern for municipal governments. Property taxes are being collected and trade licenses are getting renewed as the country survives yet another COVID year. To help ensure that the revenue stream at the city hall continues without a hitch, even given the economic strains, Mayor Bernard Wagner says taxpayers and property owners can get some discounts if they act quickly.
Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor
“We are in that time of the year where both trade license and property taxes are on the forefront. Trade license, those license certificates have been going out to the business houses obviously and people are coming in to ensure that they comply with the trade license act of paying that trade fee prior to the beginning of the business year. As well property taxes, we are offering some discounts for the month of December, fifteen percent; January, similarly; February, ten percent and March, five percent. So I implore residents to take advantage of the program that we have in place. The fifteen percent is a great deal and as you go along it begins to reduce so you want to take advantage of it in the month of December and January because it begin to go down in February and March so that’s my encouragement to the residents of the city.”
