Patrick Faber: Myrna Manzanares Deserved Official Funeral
While the funeral for the cultural icon Myrna Manzanares was attended by government officials, including Governor General Froyla T’zalam, it was not one that had all the pomp and circumstance provided to other cultural icons such as Leela Vernon in 2017, Paul Nabor in 2014 and “Mister Peters” Wilfred Peters in 2010. Leader of the Opposition and former Minister of Education and Culture, Patrick Faber called out the government for not affording an official funeral for the founder of the Kriol Council.
Patrick Faber, Leader of the Opposition
“She is a U.D.P. yes, but she is an iconic Belizean and in fact, I will go as far as to say that what has happened here is a shame. She should have at least had an official funeral the way Mister Wilfred Peters had an official funeral, the way that Leela Vernon had an official funeral. She was declared an Artist Emeritus and should have absolutely gotten that accolade from the government today.”
