European Union funds two projects

Funding has been received from the European Union for two major projects: one for the Barrier Reef complex and the other for a component of the government’s Financial Management Development Project. One million three hundred dollars will go towards the conservation and sustainable use of Belize’s coastal marine resources by developing a framework for the Coastal Zone management policy and a fully financed network covering Belize’s barrier reef marine protected area. The total project will cost almost fourteen million dollars. Additionally one million two hundred thousand dollars in computer equipment, short term technical assistance and training will be provided for a Training and Development Center under the Financial Management Project which is being carried out with funding and technical support from Great Britain. Prime Minister Said Musa signed the agreement with the European Commission during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.
