Fun in the Belizean Sun: Yeezy and Shyne Kick it on Prince Island
Earlier today, billionaire Kanye West met up with Shyne Barrow for some sea and sun on Prince Island. The pair has previously worked together on Shyne’s release, Godfather Buried Alive, while he was serving a ten-year jail sentence. Upon his release, Shyne returned to Belize but hadn’t had an opportunity to personally connect with Kanye, despite a recent trip to the United States where he met with a host of celebrities, politicians, and music executives. On the exclusive island, one of several owned by Prince, himself an industry executive, the artists-turned-politicians shared several photos online. Following their time together, News Five caught up with Barrow to discuss the brief experience. We had to ask if Drake is up next to visit the Jewel.
On the phone: Shyne Barrow
“Meeting up with him, you know, was just two creatives, two musicians coming together, two politicians because, you know, he ran for president of the United States, so we have a lot in common. So certainly, meeting up with him, you know, and also with James Prince who is a father to many of us, many of us in the hip hop community. You know, J. Prince is a mentor, truly a fountain of wisdom and to meet up in Belize is even better than the times I was supposed to meet up with him when I was in the States, you know, because with me everything da Belize. So having a global superstar such as Kanye West in Belize, loving Belize, wanting to, you know, take all of his fantastic imagination and invest it in Belize is truly a dream come through for me, you know, this is what I’ve always wanted. When I came back to Belize thirteen years ago, I used to mention these big names and say that they would come and finally they are coming. So thank God.”
“So we’ve all been following what has been taking place in the music industry recently, more so in the hip hop world, and so, Kanye, J. Prince and Drake have been working together for the Free Larry Hoover Benefit Concert. Do you believe that Drake is next to come to Belize if J. Prince moves his magical hands, perhaps he could convince Drizzy to come to Belize?”
Shyne Barrow
“Yes, and you know, I really, there’s nothing that J. Prince cannot do. Definitely, I have to give him all praises and, you know, I’m just so grateful to have him as a mentor, to have him as a brother, a friend, family and just somebody who loves Belize as much as I do, you know. He’s been coming here for the last ten years, he has islands here and… Yeah, but there is nothing that he can’t do, so definitely we look forward to all possibilities and, you know, Drake is one of his artists that he helped to develop and to this day they are still close, a close family member of his, so certainly if anybody could do it, J. Prince can.”
