Three fishermen charged for prohibited firearm/ammo
Also in Magistrates’ Court, three fishermen who were reportedly busted with a point three-fifty-seven magnum revolver and four rounds of related ammunition were charged with Keeping a Prohibited Firearm and Ammunition yesterday. Twenty-four year old Jason Westby, forty-five year old Alvin Andrews and thirty-five year old Humberto Avilez all pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Ed Usher could not offer them bail, but told them that they could apply to the Supreme Court within seven days and he remanded them into custody until April sixth. Charges are also expected to be levied against a fourteen year old minor, who police suspect was with the accused men. Police claim that they searched a boat named “Hustler” belonging to the men, where they found the prohibited weapon and ammo in an ice box. One of the accused, Andrews, is disputing the police’s version saying that the cops were chasing Mervin Vallaro, also known as “Banana”, and that in the pursuit, Vallaro threw the gun into the “Hustler” where the three were selling fish.
