Umbrella Union Organization Supports Cane Farmers
Unions, including the Belize National Trade Union, as well as the National Trade Union Congress of Belize were out in support B.S.C.F.A. members throughout the week. Luke Martinez, President of the N.T.U.C.B., called for more meaningful intervention in the issues farmers face throughout the crop season annually.
Luke Martinez, President, N.T.U.C.B.
“We continue to implore upon the movers and the shakers of this country to make meaningful intervention on behalf of the cane farmers, on behalf of the working class Paul. That is very, very important. I encourage you all to interview these cane farmers, and cover the story of the cane farmers. Not only because the cane farmers are in this season today, are in this, they are facing this today we shouldn’t be covering the story of the cane farmers. The story of the cane farmers should be covered all year round, because these people contribute significantly to the economy of Belize. So, the story has to be told. We see that workers are being disadvantaged, we make the necessary interventions and we also call for reasonable solutions, and that is what we want to see, reasonable solutions. We want an amicable end to what is happening here. And of course we want the farmers to win, que todos gana.”
