Manuel Sosa to be appointed to Court of Appeal
There are indications tonight that a settlement is in the works over the controversy surrounding the appointment and disappointment of former Chief Justice Manuel Sosa. Reliable sources tell News Five that Sosa will shortly be nominated as a Judge on the Belize Court of Appeal. At the same time his appeal to that very court, which was due to be heard on Tuesday, will be withdrawn. That case would have decided whether or not Supreme Court Justice George Meerabux acted properly when he ruled the original appointment of Sosa invalid. Sosa was appointed Chief Justice in the final days of the Esquivel administration. The Supreme Court later ruled that the Prime Minister had not meaningfully consulted with then Leader of the Opposition Said Musa as required by the Constitution.
