Murdered child buried today

Orange Walk police have still not made any arrest in the rape and murder of ten year old Karen Mathilda Cruz. The young girl’s body was found Monday afternoon, just two blocks away from where she lived on Stadium Street. The police have two suspects in custody but are focusing on their prime suspect, forty year old Prospero Sanchez, a preacher from Yo Creek Village. Investigations reveal that Sanchez used to frequent the young girl’s primary school and gave her money and treats. In addition, the police say they found a letter in Cruz’s school bag allegedly written by Sanchez saying he no longer wants to be just a family friend but to have an intimate relationship with her. Today, the police had hoped to interview the victim’s mother again but have postponed their questioning until Thursday because the family buried Karen today. Orange Walk police tell News Five that by tomorrow they should make an arrest. Karen Cruz disappeared from her home Sunday evening.
