National Security says crime down
Here is a correction of a name reported in Monday’s newscast. According to Corozal police, the man found dead in a house on Fourth Avenue is popularly known by the same name as his father: Clarence Turner. However, investigations at the registry revealed that the deceased’s name is actually Alfred Herbert Gillett. The forty-two year old resident of sixty-three Second Street North Corozal was laid to rest on Sunday after a postmortem on the body could not identify the cause of death. Police do not suspect foul play.
In other police news, the Ministry of National Security reports that crime was down in the month of May as compared to the previous four months. This drop is being attributed to Operation Fireball and the Ministry’s “unrelenting efforts to root out crime and violence”. But with another child murder this week in Orange Walk, a shooting at the border, attempted rape on San Pedro and at least two fatal accidents in the north last weekend, June seems to have gotten off to a violent start. We can only hope the remainder of the month will be more peaceful.
