Man falls from roof
Word spread quickly this afternoon that a man had been electrocuted at a construction site. A crowd gathered at the scene on Central American Boulevard where thirty-seven year old construction worker Luis Meggs had been hoisting lumber from the ground floor of the building to the roof when the accident occurred. Eyewitness Greg Moguel said Meggs appeared to trip and fall.

“I just looked up while we were coming and I saw a guy working on the building. He had a piece of stick in his hand and he just came forward, flipped and after he flipped he lashed his head against the cross beam which is considered the verandah, hooked into the wires and then hit the ground.
Where he fell, as far as I’m concerned, it looks rather funny. Probably he was ill or something like that because if he had slipped it would have shown a slip but he just came forward, his whole entire body just came over. I was hollering from my vehicle but I could not have done anything because when I stopped he was already on the ground.”
Although neighbors reported that Meggs was electrocuted by the wires around the house, doctors at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital determined that he had not been electrocuted. However, he did have a cut to the forehead and complained of lower back pain.
A resident of Yo Creek Village in the Orange Walk District was electrocuted, however, on Monday evening. According to police Roberto Pech was bathing in an outdoor bathhouse near his home when he started screaming. His son Roberto Pech Jr. rushed to his aid but was too late. Pech was transported to the Orange Walk Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. Although police believe that the cause of death is electrocution, they are not certain what caused it and are investigating.
