Hurricane Shelter Inspections Begin in Orange Walk and Belize City

The hurricane season just ended, but the National Emergency Management Organization is using this time to begin its annual shelter inspections in the Orange Walk district and around Belize City.  According to NEMO, the inspection team is headed by an engineer from the municipal council or the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing, representatives from NEMO field offices, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the Fire Department, the Police Department, and staff from various schools.  Inspectors are considering a range of requirements including the structural integrity of the buildings, safety, functionality, toilets, water availability and so on. Once the inspections are complete, the national shelter list will be vetted by all coordinators and submitted to NEMO Headquarters and the Minister and C.E.O. in the Ministry of Disaster Risk Management.
