Literacy campaign needs facilitators

Story Picture
“Dis Da Yu Chance” is the theme under which the Education Department will be holding it’s National Literacy Campaign. The campaign, which will run from July fifth through thirteenth August will feature an intensive programme of free classes for anyone over fifteen years. According to the Campaign’s Coordinator, Andy Palacio, the theme explains their main objective.

“Basically this is addressing the fact that some people have lost their chance or maybe some people never had a chance to read and write. We are looking in this case at adults not children, so we are looking for people who have by-passed the primary education opportunity. This is basically telling them not to be afraid, not to have any inhibitions, as a matter of fact be proud of the fact that you have a chance to catch up and learn to read and write.”

“What activities are planned for the week?”

“We are going to undergo the recruitment of facilitators who will be trained for one week and they will be assigned to communities in three of the six districts of Belize for the literacy campaign which will be about six weeks.”

Persons wishing to become facilitators at the literacy center must have either a high school diploma or are presently attending Sixth Form or University. For more information call the Education Department in Belize City at 77072 or 77441.
