Storytelling contest winners announced

The winners of a contest held in memory of broadcaster and comedian George McKesey have been announced. LOVE FM radio station, which sponsored the story telling contest to help revive this dying art, says there was a tie for first place between Kiwana Williams of Gwen Lizarraga High School and Shawn Gonzalez and Leticia Gill both of Pallotti. Second place went to Shanta Morrison, also of Pallotti and third was awarded to Nigel Swift of Belmopan Comprehensive. In the Adult category, Rafael Martinez of the BDF came in first, with Luis Lindo second and McKesson Garnett third. Awards will present Saturday night at St. Mary’s Hall. George McKesey was an announcer on the British Honduras Broadcasting Service in the 1950’s and 60’s and part of the comedy trio known as Lil, Georgie and Gwen alongside Gwendolyn Murillo and Lillian Reneau.
