Youths invited to attend music camp
Although they are still wrapping up the Festival of Arts, the Belize Arts Council is also preparing for the second Instrumental Music Camp. The camp will run from July fifth to the ninth at Trinidad Farm on the Northern Highway. Music Coordinator, Luis Chan, says this year the musical experience will be a real toe tapping one with sessions on salsa, rumba and conga.
Luis Chan, Musical Director, Belize Arts Council
“I think it will be an exciting time in a music atmosphere. We have local instructors who are well versed in brass and reeds from bands in the country as well as professor Carlos from Cuba who is doing a music program training in Belize.
The purpose of the camp is to introduce young students or new students to the music field, to train them and also to enforce the National Youth Band that is presently in existence. The national band was started at the first ever youth camp held at Trinidad Farm last year.”
Carlos Elias, Tutor, Cuban National School of Culture
I am not here to introduce any kind of music. I am here to help in a technical and rhythmic capacity to help the musicians and dancers in Belize.”
To attend the camp this July, you must be at least ten years old and register at the Bliss Institute. A sixty-dollar fee will cover transportation, food and accommodations.
