Truancy Program celebrates student’s B.N.S.E. achievement

Buttonwood Bay Nazarene Primary School is cheering this week as well but for a different reason. Their highest scorer on the B.N.S.E. almost did not get to take the test. Theodore Augustine moved to Belize City from Dangriga during the first term but wasn’t able to enroll in a primary school. He didn’t give up though and finally got into the Buttonwood Bay school after his grandmother called the Truancy Program.

“The truancy officer came to pick me up when my grandmother called them and when they came I thought I was in trouble or something. They said they were coming to take me to school and I was happy because finally I could continue from where I left off.”

Q: “How did you feel when you got 99.11 on the B.N.S.E.?”

“I was actually glad because it was hard at work and I deserve it. I just wanted to get a scholarship to continue my schooling without the hassle of fees or anything.”

Augustine, an aspiring computer specialist, says he will attend Nazarene High School. The Ministry of Education has extended its congratulations to Theodore for his outstanding performance and says his achievement is a significant milestone for the Ministry’s Truancy Management Program.
